The way I see it, a program is never out of the Beta-Testing stage until
it is BUG-FREE, which means that every program available on the market
is, to one degree or another, still in the beta-testing stages.
The advantage to releasing beta versions of a program is that the
programmer will learn about bugs he/she hasn't encountered on their own
and this will usually speed up the development process.
As long as it is known before-hand that the product is still in the
beta-testing stage, people who don't want to deal with buggy software can
avoid purchasing it until it is "perfect".
Nobody is being forced into buying or using a product that is still
under development...I've had LW4.0 for Amiga installed on my machine for
more than a month now and I've used it for less than 10 hours. I choose
not to use this particular version of the program because it is obviously
still under development.
Personally, I'm looking forward to trying out Bob's Modeler Language and
will purchase whatever version is available, provided it will work on my
Alpha. =)
